September 2017, yes it happened again, fall is here again. Beautiful weather as is. Down to 60 chickens that lay at random and are about 5 years old now.
Been a busy year, as always, so the farming fell by the way side, as ever. However, did go to Ghana for a couple of weeks, a trip to Utah that was to die for and built a shed for a combine, that actually works, and a farm truck that also starts at will. Had ma's over for 5 weeks this year, that slows things down, but oh so enjoyable! Finished fixing up one house, bought two more and am starting to plan on building my house. So we'll end the year as we have started; keep on keeping on in the maintenance department. Just a little shed roof repairs, a tractor here and there to fix, and then on to planting things.
Less vegetables and more of them row crops like rye and beans. Less work and not as many weeds. Not giving up altogether on the vegetables and pumpkins and strawberries, just taking a deep breather. Maybe next year. Keep hoping for that farm manager that will make it all good. The infrastructure is here. I just don't want to spend my Saturday every week going to market. Nope. Peeps got to come to my house, one of these days.

Wil farm, what 's in a name?
In 1997 Pieter's mother, Wilhelmina Gijsbertha van den Hengel, was persuaded to provide the down payment for 18 acres of fine farm ground. To thank her it became Wil farm: it seemed wise to abbreviate her name. But also: wil farm for food and wil farm, eventually.
The goal:
To raise flowers, vegetables, fruits, eggs and meat in a sustainable cooperative way; to market these fruits of labor as locally as possible; to be open to new people and ideas and to do all this without too much stress and with joy in labor.
